Broderick E. Rice’s Biography

I was born on May 3, 1965 to Joseph and Ollie Rice at John Wesley Hospital in Los Angeles California. I grew up in Compton California with my three dear sisters Dannette, Joy, and my little sister Patrice. My father was a Baptist preacher and my mother a Sunday school teacher so needless to say I grew up in church every Sunday which is where I think I get a lot of my humor from, cause church folk do some interesting things.

My father was and still is the one who inspired me to be a comedian. He was also introduced me to the first Christian comedian I had ever heard, a guy by the name of Jerry Jordon, with an album called "A phone call from God." I was smitten, and although it would be some years later before I actually began doing Gospel comedy as a profession, that record had a profound impact on my little mind. It was Sunday afternoon October 23,1987 when my destiny would be revealed to me. I was attending a musical that a local, gospel retail, store owner was putting on, and I was asked by a guy from my church to sing. The building was jam-packed. I was sweating bullets backstage trying to figure out whether I was going to sing or try to do some of my little impersonations that I had been working on. Between the time that they introduced me and the time I picked up the microphone, I made my decision, and I'm glad I did.

Now, some sixteen years, three albums, hundreds of frequent flier miles, countless radio interviews and other memories too numerous to mention, if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t hesitate 'Born Again" style
