# How to transfer my TBSZ to Lightyear?

The steps, documents, and NAV reporting you'll need

If you hold a [TBSZ (Tartós Befektetési Számla)](/help/trading-and-investments/tbsz) with another provider, you can move it to Lightyear! Because of how TBSZ works under Hungarian tax law, this isn't quite the same as a regular portfolio transfer, so here's what to expect.

If you want to transfer to your general account, see [How to transfer my portfolio?](/help/trading-and-investments/stock-transfer).

## Before you start

- **Your whole TBSZ has to move together.** Partial transfers aren't allowed. When you initiate the transfer, everything from that TBSZ, cash and instruments, will be moved to Lightyear.
- **Fractional shares cannot be transferred.** You can only move in whole shares and have to sell any fractions.
- **Only supported assets can be transferred in.** If your current TBSZ holds an instrument Lightyear can't accept, you'll need to sell it with your current provider so the proceeds can be transferred.
- **Your other broker will close your account.** After the transfer, you will no longer have an active TBSZ with your current broker and this TBSZ will only be held with Lightyear. This only affects the vintage year, so if you transfer your 2021 account, you won't have a 2021 with your ceding broker, but the transfer has no impact on your 2022, 2023, etc accounts.
- **The tax clock carries over.** Your original deposit year is preserved through the transfer, so moving providers doesn't restart your TBSZ holding period.
- **You can move a TBSZ from the same year.** If you already have a Lightyear TBSZ for the same deposit year, the incoming account from the same year will be merged into it.
- **You must report your TBSZ to NAV.** You're legally required to notify NAV yourself within 30 days. We share the guide on how to do it below.

## How the transfer works
1. **Get a statement from your current provider.** Ask your current broker for an initiator statement – a document confirming your current holdings and account details. If they don’t provide this, you can enter details manually using your account statement from your current provider.
2. **Start the transfer with Lightyear.** Go to your Portfolio, open the account switcher (on mobile, in the top left corner; on web, in the top right corner), select "Transfer your Portfolio" and pick “TBSZ”. You’ll be asked to upload the statement and provide details about your account and holdings.
3. **We review what can be accepted.** Once you’ve reviewed your holdings, we'll let you know if anything in your TBSZ isn't supported so you can sell it with your current provider first. Once sold, you can mark the sold in the transfer tracker to get to the next step.
4. **Start the transfer with your other broker.** We’ve now sent you our receiving broker details. This is what your current provider needs to send your assets to Lightyear, so make sure you forward this information to them. If your sending broker asks for Lightyear contact, please forward them the following email address: transfers_hu@lightyear.com

5. **Your current provider processes the transfer.** They will issue the **_Lekötési igazolás_** (transfer certificate), the legally required document confirming your original deposit year, the amount originally paid in, the transfer date, and the costs of what's transferred. This is also the document NAV expects to receive when you report your account.

6. **We reconcile your holdings.** Using the certificate your other broker sent to us, we’ll record your holdings under your original deposit year, so your TBSZ continues as if it had always been with us.

## How long does a transfer take?
It depends on the number of transfers that are handled as well as both brokers' internal processes. In practice, you can expect this to take a few weeks, but don’t worry, we’ll keep you updated in the transfer tracker in your Lightyear account.

## How much does it cost?
Transfer-out fees vary by broker, so it's worth checking with your current provider what they'll charge before starting, especially if you hold several instruments.

From our side, there are no fees for your incoming TBSZ transfer.

## Do I have to report my transfer to NAV?
Yes, this is an important step that you need to complete. Under Hungarian tax law, because Lightyear is a foreign provider, we don't report your TBSZ to the Hungarian tax authorities (NAV) on your behalf. This means that once your transfer is complete, **you're legally required to notify NAV yourself, within 30 days**.

It’s important to remember that Lightyear isn’t notified when you’ve reported the transfer to NAV. Therefore, we’ll send in-app reminders to complete your declaration during the 30-day window. For status updates or any edits you may need to do, please contact NAV directly.

## How to report my TBSZ transfer?
When you transfer a TBSZ to Lightyear, you need to declare the transfer to NAV, similarly to how you do when opening a new TBSZ with us. If you don't, NAV has no record that your TBSZ continues at Lightyear for its original start year, and it may treat your gains as taxable when the account matures.

**Deadline:** 30 days from the date of the transfer, as stated on the _Lekötési igazolás_ issued by your previous provider.

This is separate from any declaration you may have made when you first opened the TBSZ with your previous provider. That earlier declaration does not carry over to Lightyear.

### What you'll need before you start
**_Lekötési igazolás_**. Your previous provider is legally required to issue this as part of the transfer, and it is the document NAV relies on. Every date and amount you report comes from it: the calendar year and amount of the original deposit, the money and investments transferred, and the transfer date.
DÁP app or Ügyfélkapu+ access to log in to report your TBSZ.

**Don't have the _Lekötési igazolás_ yet?** Request it from your previous provider as soon as your transfer is on its way. Your 30 days run from the transfer date printed on that certificate, not from the day it reaches you, so the sooner you have it, the more of the window you keep.

### Steps for reporting
_**Note: This guide reflects the NAV platform (ONYA) process as it works today and is general information, not tax advice. Your tax position depends on your own circumstances. If you need any help with the declaration, please contact NAV directly.**_

Everything on the NAV site is in Hungarian only. In Chrome, you can translate the page from the three-dot menu in the right corner.

**Step 1 – Log in**: Go to the [ONYA website](https://onya.nav.gov.hu/#!/login) and log in by selecting “Bejelentkezés”.

**Step 2 – Choose your account**: As you are declaring your personal taxes, select your private individual identity.

**Step 3 – Start a new form for your TBSZ**: From the left-hand menu, pick “Új nyomtatvány” (+ symbol) to start creating a new form. Then select “Bejelentések” and “Egyéb bejelentések”. In this view, select TBSZ and click “Kiválaszt” to proceed.

**Step 4 – Fill out the details**: Some of your personal information (tax number, name, mother’s name, birth date and location will be pre-filled. Start by reviewing your address, and then declare the name and phone number of the individual filling the form. Unless you authorised someone to do this for you, these will be your details.
Scroll to the next section and add the transfer value (that you can get from your _Lekötési igazolás_), and then click “Mentés” to save the details.

⚠️ **Step 5 – Attach document**: Before submitting your form, select “További funkciók” in the bottom right corner and then “Mellékletek” to upload your _Lekötési igazolás_ that your previous provider has issued to you. Without this document, the TBSZ transfer will not be registered. Once done, close this view by clicking “Bezár”.

**Step 6 – Review and send your form**: Review to ensure all the information you’ve provided is correct and, if so, click “Mentés” at the bottom of the page to save your form. Then, click “Ellenőrzés és benyújtás” and “Tovább” to complete reporting your TBSZ.

After submission, NAV will notify you if your tax return has been successfully received.

## Can I transfer my TBSZ out of Lightyear?
Right now, we only support TBSZ transfers out in cash. This means your instruments must be sold in your TBSZ and the proceeds will be transferred out by our team. It’s important to first ensure that the other broker can accept your TBSZ transfer.

If you wish to move your TBSZ out of Lightyear, please contact our team below and we’ll explain the steps.
