Trading during extended hours

Lightyear offers extended hours trading for selected EU instruments listed on the Tradegate Exchange. This enables orders for these securities outside standard trading hours of traditional exchanges, providing greater flexibility and timely access to market movements. However, extended hours trading also involves additional risks that you should understand, so be sure to weigh the potential benefits against the risks and consider using appropriate order types. If you're uncertain, please seek professional financial advice.

Benefits of extended hours trading

  • React quickly to news or events that happen outside regular market hours.
  • Trade at times that better suit your schedule.
  • You can potentially capture early momentum or position yourself ahead of the next trading day.

Risks and considerations

  • Lower trading activity can lead to wider bid/ask spreads and make it harder to execute trades at your target price.
  • Limited volume may cause higher volatility and more rapid price movements.
  • Limit orders may not fill due to low liquidity, while market orders could execute at less favorable prices.

What are Tradegate’s extended hours?

The Tradegate Exchange operates from 07:30 to 22:00 CET on trading days. If an instrument supports extended hours trading, this will be shown on its instrument page with the “Extended hours trading” label visible at the top. Selecting this label will display the trading hours for the selected instrument in your local timezone.
