The investment objective of the Fund is to track as closely as possible the returns of the MSCI Europe Islamic Universal Screened Select Index, while integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) metrics. The Index is a subset of the MSCI Europe Islamic Index and measures the performance of large- and mid-cap stocks across 15 Developed Markets countries that comply with Shariah investment principles. The Index applies exclusionary criteria and excludes stocks with exposure to controversial and nuclear weapons, civilian firearms, tobacco, thermal coal power and mining, unconventional oil and gas extraction, Arctic oil and gas, palm oil, recreational cannabis, and breaches of the United Nations Global Compact principles. It also excludes stocks with the weakest ESG profiles and applies an ESG re-weighting factor based on current MSCI ESG Ratings and trends. The Fund is passively managed and generally invests in the stocks that make up the Index, although it may use Shariah-compliant investments such as depositary receipts when necessary.
