If stocks, ETFs, or bonds that you hold with another broker are available on Lightyear, you can transfer them by following the steps on this page. If your positions are held in a personal account, they can only be transferred to your personal Lightyear account. Likewise, if they are held in a business account, they can be transferred to your Lightyear business account.
How can I start the process to transfer my investments into Lightyear?
- Make sure that your current broker can process transfers out of their platform.
- Go to your profile on mobile or web and hit “Transfer your Portfolio”.
- You'll be prompted to select the account you wish to make the transfer into.
- Next, you need to select the instrument you wish to transfer to us. The instrument you want to transfer must be available on Lightyear and tradable on the same exchange and currency as on our platform (except for crypto assets that cannot be transferred). See our stock screener, fund screener, and bond screener for our entire selection and ensure the instrument exchange and currency matches with what you hold. If you don't find your instrument in the list, this means we don’t have it in our selection and can’t accept this transfer.
- For a stock or ETF transfer, we accept whole shares. You can only transfer exercised, regular stocks – Lightyear does not accept non-qualified stock options (NSO). To submit your request, each stock position must be worth at least 1,000 EUR/GBP/USD, 400,000 HUF, 10,000 SEK/NOK, 7,000 DKK, 4,000 PLN, or 1,000 CHF. If any individual positions are below this amount, you can still transfer them, as long as you're transferring multiple positions and their combined total is over the minimum value. In that case, please contact our team below this article.
- For a bond transfer, the minimal order size is 1 bond, and therefore, the minimal order value is the market price of 1 bond.
- As a last step, you need to pick your broker, so we can send you a guide which you can use when creating a transfer request on their side. If you can't find your broker on the list, select "Other". All you need to do then is follow our guide to initiate a transfer from your current broker, and then we’ll take over for the rest!
Where can I transfer from?
- We can accept a transfer from almost any broker that facilitates transfers out of their platform but in the app you'll find a list and guides specific to brokers from which transfers are commonly initiated.
- You'll need to initiate the transfer on your current broker's platform first. We can only start processing it once we receive their confirmation.

How much does the transfer cost?
We don’t charge you for the transfer but your current broker might, so check with your other broker before starting the process. Your broker might ask you to pay or sell some of the stock to cover for the transfer fee.
How long does it take?
There are only a few steps required from you to initiate the transfer. At present, this is a manual process. The time it takes for transfers to appear in your Lightyear account may vary, and it often depends on the practices of your existing broker. If your existing broker uses older systems, the process may take longer or involve additional complexities.
Please note that as the transfer timeline is largely controlled by the originating broker and requires their action, we can’t unfortunately speed up the process. We'll aim to keep you updated throughout via app notifications.
My investments have left my previous broker but aren’t on Lightyear yet
Don’t worry, your investments aren’t lost. There’s a period where the assets leave your other account but haven’t yet arrived in Lightyear, which means they are reserved by your other broker. This is a normal part of the transfer process and can take some time, but your instruments are on their way and will appear in your Lightyear account as soon as possible. Keep an eye on the app, we’ll notify you once everything has landed.
Can I transfer my investments out of Lightyear?
We can process your transfer out, just make sure your receiving broker accepts the instruments you'd like to move. Before requesting, note that:
- Each position must meet the minimum value: 1,000 EUR/GBP/USD, 400,000 HUF, 10,000 SEK/NOK, 7,000 DKK, 4,000 PLN, or 1,000 CHF
- Fractional positions and crypto assets cannot be transferred
To get started, email us at transfers@lightyear.com from your verified email address with which instruments you'd like to transfer, how many shares of each, and the name of the receiving institution. Our team will review your request and come back to you with next steps. There are currently no fees on our side for this process.
If a transfer out isn't possible, you can always sell your positions and withdraw the cash to your bank account.
