Bulls say / Bears say
Net profit rose 28% year-on-year to $64.2 million in 2Q25, and cumulative net income for 6M25 reached $115.9 million (+14% YoY), driven by strong revenue growth, stable credit provisions, and improved operational efficiency. (Nasdaq)
Fee income set a record at $19.9 million in 2Q25 (+59% YoY), supported by the bank's largest-ever structured transaction and higher fees from letters of credit and credit commitments, helping diversify non-interest revenues. (Nasdaq)
BLX continues to show strong capital and asset quality metrics, with a Common Equity Tier 1 ratio of 15.0%, 97.9% of its loan portfolio classified as low-risk Stage 1, and non-performing loans representing just 0.2% of total assets and covered 5.1 times, reflecting prudent risk management. (Nasdaq)
Net interest margin declined 7 basis points year-on-year to 2.36% in 2Q25 as a result of high USD liquidity and competitive pricing, which could put pressure on BLX's future net interest income. (Nasdaq)
The World Bank lowered its 2025 growth forecast for Latin America and the Caribbean to 2.1% from 2.5%, citing delayed rate cuts in developed economies, trade restrictions, and global uncertainties that may slow demand for BLX's trade finance services. (Reuters)
Brazil's economy is expected to have slowed to just 0.3% growth in Q2 2025 from 1.4% in Q1, according to a Reuters poll, indicating weaker regional momentum that could weigh on BLX's core Latin American lending business. (Reuters)
