About Compass Minerals
Compass Minerals currently produces two primary products: salt and specialty potash fertilizer. The company's main assets include rock salt mines in Ontario, Louisiana, and the United Kingdom. The fertilizer is produced from a brine operation at the Great Salt Lake in Utah that produces sulfate of potash and magnesium chloride. Compass' salt products are used for deicing and also by industrial and consumer end markets. The firm's sulfate of potash is used by growers of high-value crops that are sensitive to standard potash.

What the Analysts think about Compass Minerals

Analyst projections of the future price of Compass Minerals stock.
Bulls say / Bears say
Plant Nutrition is showing a credible turnaround: third-quarter adjusted EBITDA rose 32% to $15 million on better pricing and lower per-unit costs. Management raised full-year segment EBITDA guidance to $49 million–$57 million. (Compass Minerals)
Salt pricing is strengthening as industry inventories remain low after a strong winter. Management reported substantial year-on-year price improvement and stronger demand tenders for the 2026–27 highway bid season, helping offset weaker volumes. (Compass Minerals, The Motley Fool)
The balance sheet is materially healthier. Net leverage fell to 2.8 times from 4.3 times a year earlier, debt fell to $716.6 million, and S&P upgraded the company’s ratings after the early repayment of $150 million of 2027 notes. (S&P Global Ratings, Compass Minerals)
Salt execution remains the main operational risk. Third-quarter Salt adjusted EBITDA fell 15% because higher mining and distribution costs more than offset pricing gains, and management cut the top end of full-year Salt EBITDA guidance to $236 million from $240 million. (Compass Minerals)
Salt volumes remain exposed to weather and replenishment timing. Third-quarter highway volumes fell 6%, while management expects a reduced fiscal 2027 demand profile if winter conditions normalise after the unusually strong 2025–26 season. (The Motley Fool)
Utah’s 2026 Great Salt Lake legislation raises the severance tax on mineral extraction from 2.6% to 7.8% and links brine withdrawals to lake levels. That could increase costs or constrain Compass Minerals’ Great Salt Lake operations if conditions deteriorate. (Utah House of Representatives)
