Bulls say / Bears say

Carvana reported record Q2 2025 results, with retail unit sales jumping 41% year-over-year to 143,280 and revenue climbing 42% to $4.84 billion. Adjusted EBITDA reached $601 million with a 12.4% margin—a significant beat versus consensus expectations (Reuters).
In Q1 2025, unit sales surged 46% year-over-year as Carvana took advantage of tariff-driven price increases in used cars and implemented cost reductions, posting a record-high EBITDA margin and marking a strong turnaround since its near-bankruptcy in 2022 (Financial Times).
Morgan Stanley upgraded Carvana to Overweight, showing increased analyst confidence in its growth momentum and the sustainability of recent profitability gains (Reuters).
Underlying cash flow remains weak, as Carvana has yet to generate positive operating cash flow despite reporting profits, raising concerns about the durability of its earnings (Reuters).
Second-quarter profitability was boosted by one-time gains from selling auto loans, suggesting that core operating performance may not be as strong in future quarters (Reuters).
Possible increases in auto tariffs could raise costs and pressure used-car margins, leading analysts at J.P. Morgan to lower earnings forecasts for Carvana (Barron’s).
