EDP, S.A., headquartered in Lisbon, Portugal, is an energy company engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution, and supply of electricity and natural gas across multiple countries, including Portugal, Spain, France, Poland, Romania, Italy, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Greece, Colombia, Brazil, and North America. Founded in 1976 through the merger of 14 nationalized electricity companies, EDP operates through three segments: Renewables, Networks, and Client Solutions & Energy Management. The company generates electricity from various sources, including hydroelectric, combined-cycle gas turbine, coal, wind, solar, nuclear, and cogeneration and waste. In April 2024, EDP changed its name from EDP - Energias de Portugal, S.A. to EDP, S.A. to reflect its increasingly global presence.
