About Lumen Technologies

Lumen Technologies is one of the largest telecommunications carriers serving global enterprises. The merger with Level 3 in 2017, the 2022 divestiture of much of its local phone business in rural areas, and the 2026 sale of its remaining consumer fiber network to AT&T have shifted the company's operations away from the legacy consumer business and toward enterprise services, which account for about 85%-90% of revenue. Lumen offers businesses a full suite of communications services, providing colocation and data center services, data transportation, phone service, and internet access.

What the Analysts think about LUMN

Bulls say / Bears say

Lumen reported $91 million of second-quarter revenue from its Private Connectivity Fabric service, tied to $13 billion of announced deals. Delivering those AI-networking contracts could provide a sizeable growth pipeline. (The Motley Fool)
Digital-service adoption is gaining traction: Lumen had more than 3,000 Network-as-a-Service customers in the second quarter, with active ports up 34% quarter on quarter. Its Alkira acquisition also adds cloud-networking capabilities for enterprise customers. (Lumen Technologies)
The consumer-fibre sale helped cut Lumen’s debt from about $17.4 billion at the end of 2025 to $12.9 billion at the end of the first quarter. Fitch said the transaction lowered leverage to the high 3x range from the mid-5x range, easing a major balance-sheet constraint. (StockTitan, Fitch Ratings)
Revenue remains in decline: second-quarter sales fell 9% year on year, while legacy revenue fell 15%. Growth in strategic services has not yet offset the contraction elsewhere. (Lumen Technologies, The Motley Fool)
The $1.9–$2.1 billion 2026 free-cash-flow outlook includes $729 million of sale-related proceeds and a $350–$450 million tax refund, while planned capital spending is $3.2–$3.4 billion. That makes the headline cash-flow target a less reliable guide to recurring cash generation. (Lumen Technologies, Lumen Technologies)
Lumen still had about $13.2 billion of long-term debt and recorded a $201 million second-quarter net loss. Fitch expects revenue to keep falling in 2026 and says business revenue is not expected to return to growth until 2028, leaving little room for execution setbacks. (StockTitan, Fitch Ratings)
