About Nutrien

Created in 2018 as a result of the merger between PotashCorp and Agrium, Nutrien is the world's largest fertilizer producer by capacity. Nutrien produces the three main crop nutrients—nitrogen, potash, and phosphate—although its main focus is potash, where it is the global leader in installed capacity with a roughly 20% market share. The company is also the largest agricultural retailer in North America and Australia, selling fertilizers, crop chemicals, seeds, and services directly to farm customers through its brick-and-mortar stores and online platforms.

Bulls say / Bears say

Nutrien raised its 2025 potash sales volume guidance to 13.9–14.5 million tonnes, reflecting confidence in sustained global demand and reinforcing its market leadership. (Reuters)
Second‐quarter potash sales surged 31% YoY to $991 million, underscoring strong pricing power and operational execution in its core segment. (Reuters)
Post‐Q2, Nutrien repurchased 990,171 shares for $59 million and increased its quarterly dividend to $0.545, highlighting robust free cash flow and commitment to shareholder returns. (Nutrien)
In Q1 2025, Nutrien’s adjusted core profit fell about 12% YoY to $408 million, as a 21.6% drop in potash prices and higher energy costs in its nitrogen segment exerted margin pressure. (Reuters)
Trade tensions between the U.S. and China prompted crop price volatility, leading farmers to rein in fertilizer spending and potentially dampening future demand for Nutrien’s products. (Reuters)
Nutrien’s 2025 guidance includes $2.0–$2.1 billion in capital expenditures and an effective tax rate of 24–26%, which may constrain free cash flow growth and limit upside for shareholder returns. (Nutrien)
