Bulls say / Bears say
The March 2, 2026 acquisition of the Green Giant U.S. frozen business for ~$63.2 million reunites the iconic shelf-stable and frozen brands, significantly expanding Seneca’s footprint and scale in the growing frozen category (Seneca Foods, B&G Foods SEC)
Seneca delivered record full-year FIFO diluted EPS of $14.15 on a 13.9% gross margin for the twelve months ended March 31, 2026, up from 9.5% a year ago, driven by normalized pack costs and strong volume growth (Nasdaq)
Net sales for fiscal Q1 2027 (three months ended June 27, 2026) climbed 36% year-over-year to $405.2 million from $297.5 million, fueled by higher case volume, favorable selling prices and product mix (Seneca Foods)
Q2 gross margin for the three months ended June 27, 2026 fell to 11.8% from 14.1% a year earlier, reflecting pressure from a non-cash bargain purchase charge and residual higher-cost 2024 inventory (Seneca Foods)
The integration of the Green Giant U.S. frozen business entails a non-cash purchase accounting charge and operational consolidation risk, which could weigh on near-term profitability as the company works to absorb new manufacturing operations (Seneca Foods)
Seneca cites in its June 27 10-Q that rising costs for raw fruits and vegetables, steel, ingredients, packaging and labor, as well as weather-dependent crop yields, pose ongoing risks to margins and operating performance (SEC)
