What the Analysts think about Spire

Analyst ratings (Buy, Hold, Sell) for Spire stock.

Bulls say / Bears say

Spire’s $2.48 billion purchase of Duke Energy’s Tennessee natural gas business will add about 205,000 customers to its regulated utility base, expanding its geographic reach and supporting growth.
Jefferies launched coverage with a 'buy' rating and a $92 price target for Spire, citing improved earnings visibility from Missouri regulatory changes and the Tennessee acquisition, implying a 12.9% potential upside.
Spire’s SEC 10-Q filing revealed a unanimous agreement in the Missouri rate case as of August 4, 2025, approving a $210 million base rate hike that supports stronger future regulated revenues.
Spire secured a bridge loan from BMO Capital Markets to fund the $2.48 billion Tennessee acquisition, but long-term financing has not yet been arranged, increasing leverage and credit risk in an uncertain market.
Analyst sentiment remains mixed: Jefferies notes one sell rating and a median price target of $80.50, indicating limited consensus for significant upside.
The Tennessee acquisition still requires approval from the Tennessee Public Utility Commission, with the application expected within 45 days, which could lead to regulatory delays or conditions impacting the deal’s closing timeline.
