Bulls say / Bears say

Aflac Japan posted strong recent product momentum: 2025 sales rose 16.0%, supported by the Miraito cancer product and the repriced Tsumitasu life product, providing a company-specific growth catalyst in its core market. (sec.gov) (SEC)
Capital returns remain substantial: Aflac returned $1.3 billion to shareholders in the second quarter of 2026 through $983 million of repurchases and $309 million of dividends, while the board increased the quarterly dividend 5.2% to $0.61 per share. (investors.aflac.com) (Aflac)
Underlying first-half momentum was better than the headline quarter: excluding foreign-currency effects, adjusted EPS increased 4.1%, while Aflac U.S. first-half net earned premiums rose 2.9% and second-quarter sales increased 2.6%. (investors.aflac.com) (Aflac)
Aflac’s second-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings fell 7.7% year over year to $883 million, while adjusted EPS declined 1.7%; Aflac U.S.’s pretax adjusted margin also compressed to 20.9% from 22.5% because of higher benefits. (investors.aflac.com) (Aflac)
A weaker yen remains a headwind because Japan is Aflac’s largest earnings contributor: currency reduced second-quarter 2026 adjusted EPS by $0.05, and the company reported a $5.0 billion unrealized foreign-currency translation loss at June 30, 2026. (investors.aflac.com) (Aflac)
Aflac’s investment portfolio remains a balance-sheet risk, with net unrealized losses on investment securities and derivatives of $2.8 billion at June 30, 2026, up from $1.8 billion a year earlier; reported equity also benefited materially from discount-rate assumption changes, making capital metrics sensitive to market conditions.
