About Cboe
Founded in 1973, Cboe controls the largest option exchange in the US, which provides around 60% of the firm's revenue. The company is best known for its proprietary S&P 500 and VIX index options, which it offers through an exclusive contract with S&P Global. The firm moved into US and European equities through the $3.4 billion acquisition of BATS in 2017. Cboe has continued to look to expand internationally, using acquisitions to build a presence in both Canada and Australia.

What the Analysts think about Cboe
Analyst ratings (Buy, Hold, Sell) for Cboe stock.
Bulls say / Bears say
Cboe surpassed Wall Street’s Q2 2025 earnings projections, posting adjusted net income of $2.46 per share on net revenue of $587.3 million, a 14% increase from the prior year, supported by strong hedging demand (Reuters).
Options trading revenue in Q2 jumped 19% year-over-year to a record $364.8 million, with average daily index options volume reaching 4.7 million contracts, underscoring Cboe’s leadership in derivatives markets (Reuters).
Regulatory approval for Cboe Australia to directly list companies marks a major step in expanding its APAC presence, tapping into a market with A$2 billion in daily equity turnover and opening new opportunities for listing-fee revenues (Reuters).
Cboe’s move to exit the Japanese equities business highlights ongoing struggles to achieve sustained profitability in major international markets, which could hinder its global diversification strategy (Reuters).
Net transaction and clearing fees for Cboe’s U.S. equities exchanges dropped 22% year-over-year in Q2 2025 as its market share slipped to 10.5% from 11.4% the previous year, pointing to mounting competition and creating pressure on a vital revenue stream (PRNewswire).
Cboe’s robust results have been largely fueled by macroeconomic uncertainty and heightened volatility; if market conditions stabilize and volatility recedes, derivatives trading volumes and related revenues could see a meaningful decline (Reuters).
