About Fastenal
Fastenal began as an industrial retailer, expanding its product portfolio from nuts and bolts to cutting tools, safety equipment, and janitorial supplies. It transitioned into a distributor by building out a dense network of branches close to its business customers. Once a customer becomes large enough, Fastenal installs vending machines and its own personnel on-site. Today, these on-site locations exceed Fastenal's branch count and remain the firm's main focus for expansion. Fastenal acts as a one-stop outsourcing partner for its industrial customers, offering value-added services along with a wide breadth of maintenance, repair, and operations supplies.

What the Analysts think about Fastenal
Analyst ratings (Buy, Hold, Sell) for Fastenal stock.
Bulls say / Bears say
Fastenal met Wall Street’s first-quarter forecasts with net sales of $1.96 billion and earnings per share of $0.52, showing resilience despite a tough environment for industrial supplies. (Reuters)
The company’s April tariff-driven price increases, which Jefferies sees adding roughly 3–4% to second-quarter growth, should help offset higher input and logistics costs. (Barron's)
A rise in large, high-value orders from key customers countered softer demand in manufacturing and construction, highlighting Fastenal’s successful diversification of its customer base. (Reuters)
Fastenal’s gross profit margin fell to 45.1% from 45.5% compared to the previous year in the first quarter, hurt by a greater reliance on lower-margin large accounts and higher transportation costs. (Reuters)
Although larger orders helped earnings, fundamental demand in manufacturing and construction stayed weak, signaling possible volume pressure if order sizes return to normal. (Reuters)
Analysts warn that while recent price increases will boost revenue, they may also reduce demand from end customers and restrict volume growth in the second half of 2025. (Barron's)
