Bulls say / Bears say

Second-quarter revenue rose 51% year on year to $12.7 million, while customer performance obligations stood at $49.1 million, with $40.3 million expected to be recognised over the next 12 months. That gives Kopin better near-term revenue visibility than its recent results alone suggest. (Kopin, Kopin 10-Q)
Defence demand is turning into production orders, not just development work: Kopin won a $21.5 million follow-on thermal-imaging contract and a further $2.4 million OLED microdisplay order for an international thermal weapon-sight programme. Deliveries on the latter are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, with potential follow-on orders. (Business Wire, Kopin)
Kopin is making measurable progress towards a domestic full-colour MicroLED business. It has exceeded 150,000 nits in testing, advanced integration for Army soldier-vision systems and installed US bonding equipment, with product manufacturing targeted for mid-2027; a new Army SBIR award adds further government backing. (Kopin, Kopin)
The second-quarter profit does not yet show a self-sustaining turnaround: Kopin still reported a $3.5 million operating loss. Net income was helped by about $2.3 million of investment gains and a $2.1 million tax benefit, which are not repeatable operating earnings. (Kopin, Kopin 10-Q)
Liquidity remains a risk while Kopin funds research and manufacturing investment. Operating cash outflow was $5.1 million in the first half, only about $24.3 million of cash was unrestricted at quarter-end, and the company says it may need further equity financing if results fall short or liquidity needs increase. (Kopin 10-Q)
The recent revenue growth is not yet translating into broad product scale: second-quarter product revenue was only $7.6 million versus $7.5 million a year earlier, while the increase came mainly from grants, funded research and collaborations. The most promising MicroLED opportunity is still in development, with manufacturing not expected to begin until mid-2027, leaving execution and timing risk. (Kopin 10-Q, Kopin)
