Opening an account

With Lightyear, you can open a personal investment account or a business account. Below you'll find who can sign up, what each account needs, and how to get started.

How old do I have to be to open a Lightyear account?

To sign up and start using Lightyear you must be at least 18 years old.

Is Lightyear available everywhere?

Not yet. See What services do you offer and where? for the list of countries you must reside in to sign up, and in which cases we can't offer our services.

Which accounts can I open?

  • Personal account: This is your personal Lightyear account and the starting point for any other account you may open. You can have one personal account.
  • Business account: Once you've opened your personal account, you can also open a business account for each company you own. Business accounts aren't available yet for companies registered in Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Norway, and Sweden. See more information here: Can I open a business account and how do they work?

Can I open an account for my child or a joint account?

At the moment, Lightyear accounts are for individual use only. This means you can't open an account on behalf of someone else or share an account with another person.

How to get started?

Our platform is available on our Android and iOS mobile apps as well as on our web application on our website. See details here: Do I have to download the app, or do you have a website?.

I can't find Lightyear in my app store

Make sure your app store and phone location are both set to your residency country. If you reside outside of the countries we're available in right now, the Lightyear app may not be available for download.

How long does it take to open an account?

Signing up takes just a few minutes, and verifying your information can take up to 2 business days, depending on the type of account you're opening. We keep you posted in the app about your account status, but feel free to reach out to us below this article if you're stuck or your account verification has taken more than 2 business days.

Verifying my information

As a regulated financial institution, we have obligations to make sure we know who is using our service to ensure the safety and security of our platform. This means we may need to verify your identity or address, and to do this, we'll ask for relevant documents. See more here.
