Choosing my portfolio currency

Your portfolio currency is the currency used to show you an estimated total value of everything you hold across your entire account. It's a display setting and doesn't affect how your money or instruments are held or what currency you actually own.

How to change the portfolio viewing currency?

Go to Profile → three dots next to the account → Currency. You can switch between EUR, GBP, and USD.

How the viewing currency works

When you set a portfolio currency, Lightyear shows you an estimated total value in your chosen currency using the latest interbank rate, but your money and instruments stay exactly where they are, in the currencies you hold them in.

What it does affect

  • The total estimated portfolio value
  • The overall estimated return (PnL)
  • The estimated total cash balance and total investments you hold

What it doesn't affect

  • Individual instruments will always be shown in the currency they're traded in
  • Your actual cash balances stay in the currencies you hold them in
  • Changing portfolio currency never triggers an actual conversion

Your portfolio currency affects how returns are displayed

If your portfolio currency is different from the currencies you're invested in or hold cash in, FX (currency exchange) movements will affect your displayed return. For example, if you hold USD stocks or USD cash, but your portfolio currency is EUR, a shift in the EUR/USD rate will change your displayed PnL.

For the most accurate view of estimated performance, we recommend viewing in the same currency you have your holdings in.
