Opening an account

How old do I have to be to open a Lightyear account?

To sign up and start using Lightyear you must be at least 18 years old.

Can I have more than one account?

You can have one personal account and as many business accounts as you own companies, if they meet the requirements we need to onboard them.

Can I open an account for my child?

No, Lightyear accounts are personal and in the name of the account holder. At the moment we don’t offer the option to open an account for someone else.

How long does it take to open an account?

Signing up takes just a few minutes and verifying your information takes 0-2 business days, depending on the type of account you’re opening and where you’re signing up from. We keep you posted in the app about your account status but feel free to reach out to us below if you’re stuck or your account verification has taken more than 2 business days.

Is Lightyear available in every country?

Not yet. See What services do you offer and in which country? for the list of countries you must reside in to sign up and in which cases we can’t offer our services to you.

I can’t find Lightyear in my app store

Make sure your app store and phone location are both set to your residency country. If you reside outside of the countries we’re available right now, the Lightyear app may not be available for download.

Verifying my information

As a regulated financial institution, we have obligations to make sure we know who is using our service to ensure the safety and security of our platform. This means we may need to verify your identity or address and to do this we’ll ask for relative documents. See more here.
